John Hart, FTCA began his academic career studying Architecture/Pre-engineering at Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana. He quickly realized he was not in the correct program, or at the right school, so he transferred to Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana. At Purdue he undertook the study of civil engineering, graduating from Purdue with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. However, when he transferred to Purdue, he lost his scholarship. Accordingly, he wants to see this scholarship assist structural engineering transfer students or students who change their discipline to a structural engineering major.
After college, John eventually made his way to Colorado and began his long tenure with Peak Engineering, a Denver Metro area consulting firm with over 35 years of national structural engineeing experience. John started with Peak in 1997, became President in 2008 and then retired in October of 2022. John was highly regarded in the field of engineering throughout his career. He worked tirelessly to improve our profession through his work with ACI and the TCA. John received numerous awards over his career. He was named a Top 20 Influencer by the TCA and was also elected into its Hall of Fellows.
John passed away in February 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His spirit and legacy will live on through this scholarship.
